Here's how I do things with my AMVs.
Getting the things you need.
First you need to well, pick an anime. There are download sites if you search.
Ok, now you got your episodes, next you need music. I can be anything. From Epic Songs to Funny ones if it has a beat to it, you can make an AMV out of it.
Step 3 is use any movie making program. Windows Movie Maker is the one I use but, you can use Flash's movie maker or Sony Vegas.
Step 4 is to get a codec. Without it you'll well not see the clips, You'll just get the audio. I use DirectX It's good and reliable.
The Set up.
Just import the episodes your gonna use. Might take a bit but, they'll show up.
Next import your song that your gonna use. Just put it on the Time line.
Now you got your music on the time line and you clips are in the movie maker now to take the clips of the episodes you have and put them to the music. Don't just randomly toss them on there though. Try to sync the clips with the song.
I suggest you listen to the song a couple second a head of where your putting clips in and see what you can put there.
Extras to make it look cool.
Didn't think that was it did you? Well, Now me move on to Effects and translations.
Effects are not used much in My AMVs but, some of them help.
Translations are tricky though. They merge the clips if you put in a translation. You want to put the translations in do it as you are making the video not after. It'll mess up the timing of the clips. Effects are better to use after your done with the video.
Well, now I hope it helped. That all there is to it!
Small note. Video game cut scenes can be used for AMVs too. Jet can help with where you can find them(At least Kingdom heart ones.).
